As a church in the downtown area of Eau Claire, Grace Lutheran remain committed to her neighbors. Below are some of the mission opportunities you can become involved in through Grace.
Many of you enjoy working together on our annual Christmas baskets. If you know of anyone who would appreciate such a basket, please encourage them to stop in at the church office with their information by December 15. The following food items are welcome for the baskets: spaghetti sauce with meat, spaghetti noodles, instant potatoes, instant pudding, cookies, rolls, margarine, 3lb. or 5lb. canned hams, canned fruit, cranberries, vegetables, and sweet potatoes. We will be assembling baskets on December 18.
Grace Lutheran Food Pantry
The third busiest food pantry in Eau Claire, we offer various canned goods [fruit, vegetables and meat], milk, bread, and frozen meat. Items we can always use include soups, Dinty Moore Beef Stew, spaghetti, crackers, and peanut butter. This pantry is partially funded through our Deacon Fund [local hunger].
Hours of operation
- Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 11:00 am and 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
We are one of the many downtown churches that originally helped start Beacon House; in the early stages people needing assistance slept in the church parlors. Today Beacon House has a permanent facility located on the corner of Lake street and Barstow street in downtown Eau Claire. Grace Lutheran continues to offer support in the form of volunteer services on a revolving basis with other churches in the area. The photograph in the banner on this page is of Bill Kurth who built our ‘lighthouse’ to remind us of when our turn to volunteer approaches.
Radio & Television Broadcasts
Grace Lutheran has been a part of the airwaves since 1947, and has been broadcast on television in one form or another, since the 1960s. By reaching into peoples homes, who otherwise would not have access to a local church, we can touch and enrich lives through the Good News. Donations to support this valuable ministry can be directed to Radio/TV broadcast.
Habitat for Humanity
Three new projects have been started in the area. One is in Altoona, one home will be in Chippewa Falls and the other is in Mondovi. This is a wonderful chance to work together with your children and actually give them a “hands on” approach to helping our neighbor. This is also being counted as a service project for the confirmation kids. Watch for more details or call the office.
The Community Table is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing meals every day of the week to those who are in need. It is located in the basement of the Eau Claire parks and Recreation Building, 1300 First Avenue. Six to ten people are needed on a team to cook and serve a meal and then to provide clean up after. There is a need at the Table for more teams to work especially in the summer. For more information contact Anne Carter by phone at 552.5418 or by e-mail.
Our Jail Ministry prayer group meets in the lounge every Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. Please contact Pastor Rolf for more information, either by phone, 832.9713 or by e-mail.
